ATTENTION MEMBERS
MUST READ:
Weingarten rights apply to employees who work at both public and privately owned health care facilities. Union employees have a right to union representation at any meeting with the Employer where the employee reasonably believes the meeting could result in discipline or discharge.  This includes meetings with UMHS Security or University Police.  The most important thing to remember about Weingarten is that the employee MUST make the request for such representation because the employer is not obligated to inform the employee of this right, or to offer representation.

WEINGARTEN DECLARATION
Employees may read or hand this statement to management before the start of any meeting that could lead to discipline:

 “If the discussion I am being asked to enter into could in any way lead to my discipline or termination or affect my personal working conditions, I ask that a union steward, representative or officer be present.  Unless I have this union representation I respectfully choose not to participate in this discussion.”
