Get involved: Become a Communication Team Leader
Are you looking to get more involved in your union? Ready to help your UMPNC Bargaining Team and Reps connect with 5,800 nurses across the Health System to win a good contract?
There is a great way to step up: becoming a Communication Team Leader. We’re building a Communication Action Network to have a stronger and better informed membership throughout the contract campaign and beyond. The idea is that Comms Team Leaders build a “team” of 10 people they see pretty much every day.
It’s more advanced than a phone tree, but a similar idea. Communication Team Leaders will pass along newsletters, bargaining updates, or other union messages to their 10 people. Ideally these updates would be done face to face, but sometimes it could mean sending a text, email, or a phone call to update someone if time is limited. The other side of it is taking information and concerns from your 10 person team and relaying those concerns/issues to your district rep who can relay the issues to the Area reps who are at the bargaining table.
So the structure works like this: Area Reps (bargaining team) -> District Reps -> Communication Team Leader -> 10 person team. As we build this up, we will to be able to quickly and easily reach out to all 5,800 nurses with no one having to reach out to more than 10 people.
We’re asking Communication Team Leaders to commit to 4 things:

- 2. Build a team of 10 coworkers you are responsible for contacting
- 3. Pass on the union message to my team, learn what is on members’ minds and communicate that back to my District or Area Union Representative
- 4. Help carry out collective actions. (button, sticker days, etc)
